As lead sponsor of the historic Anti-Female Genital Mutilation (Anti-FGM) Law, Hon. Moima Briggs-Mensah helped secure vital protections for Liberian girls and women. The law, passed in 2024, prohibits FGM and other harmful traditional practices that undermine women’s rights and health.
The legislation was the result of years of advocacy, community engagement, and regional consultations. “No tradition should come at the cost of a girl’s future,” Hon. Moima declared in her floor speech. The Anti-FGM Law now stands as a symbol of Liberia’s progress and commitment to gender justice.
